Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After claiming a 10-0 victory on Thursday, the Jacksonville University baseball fell behind early and couldn't recover at John Sessions Stadium on Friday night as Lipscomb claims game two of the opening conference series, 13-6. The Dolphins (14-16; 1-1) aim to claim the series in the rubber match slated for 11 a.m. Saturday.
Drew Luther (4-for-5) led the way for the Dolphins with his first career four hit game behind a pair of doubles and RBI's. Dylan Dillard (3-for-5) added 2-RBI as well as a double in the fourth inning, while Angelo Amendolare (1-for-2) added a double, his ninth, with a run scored and three walks.
"We weren't ready to play mentally tonight," said head coach Tim Montez after what he deemed was one of the best performances all season last night in the 10-0 victory. "We weren't ready to pitch and we were passive at the plate. Hopefully we got that out of our system and we can answer back tomorrow and win a series."
Lipscomb would jump on the home team out of the gate, scoring all 13 runs in the first-six innings. With two in the first, Jacksonville would answer back with Dillard's 2-RBI single, scoring Luther and Amendolare.
A four run third inning would put the home team in an early 7-2 hole. A comeback was brewed in the sixth after the Bisons tacked on its last two runs, with an answer by Cameron Gibson (1-for-5) who singled in a run, after Parker Perez (0-for-2) was hit-by-pitch and pinch-hitter Nathan Koslowski (0-for-1)reached on a fielder's choice and up to bat was Luther.
In a two-strike hole, the veteran Luther drove a double to center field, scoring Gibson and Koslowski, but that would do it for the Fins' scoring in the game.
Justin Russell (2-5) was tagged with his fifth loss of the season after surrendering six-earned runs in three innings pitched while Shane Wise and Spencer Stockton were targeted on the other six runs (one unearned) in two and a third combined innings.
As coach Montez eluded to, the double-digit left on base total was the tenth time this season where they are 3-7 in the occurrence.
Michael Babb, Andrew Ciocia and Dillard threw three and two-thirds innings and held the Bisons scoreless with two strikeouts by Ciocia and no hits. Babb set down six-of-seven batters faced while Dillard set down all three.
