Box Score MIAMI, Fla. – The Jacksonville University baseball team dropped the final game of midweek series at FIU, with a 9-0 final on Wednesday. The Dolphins jump back into Atlantic Sun play with a three-game series at Kennesaw State beginning Friday, May 8.
Senior Cameron Gibson (1-for-2) reached base three times after walking twice while Parker Perez (1-for-4), Garrett Ruckel (1-for-1) and Connor Marabell (1-for-4) recorded the only hits on a rare, quiet night offensively for JU.
Settling in after surrendering a four run first inning, Ryan Quintero (0-1) pitched back-to-back shutout innings with three strikeouts, before giving up a a home run in the fourth. Dylan Dillard escaped a jam in the sixth inning, stranding one on base and surrendering no runs in the frame.
Five pitchers were used as Andrew Ciocia, Michael Babb and Shane Wise combined 2 2/3 scoreless with Wise leading the way with two strikeouts. Babb recorded one.
Angelo Amendolare's (0-for-4) hitting streak comes to an end at 22-games. During that span, the senior batted .402 with six doubles and 15 RBI. His 35 hits over that span was three more than fellow senior Drew Luther (0-for-2).
The Panthers jumped out to an early lead and it never relinquished. Jack Shaff led the way with a 3-for-4 bid, while JC Escarra hit two solo-home runs en route to a 2-for-4 outing. The home team launched four home runs in the win.
David Lee (2-1) threw six innings of the four pitcher combined shutout, surrendering three hits and striking out four.
The Dolphins (21-27; 7-8 A-Sun) leave for Kennesaw State (25-22; 8-6 A-Sun) for a weekend series with seeding implications on the line. Jacksonville can surpass another conference opponent after claiming two series earlier this season against Lipscomb and Northern Kentucky.
The Owls are coming off a series victory at Lipscomb, 2-1 in which they claimed the final two games.
