Hays Homers Jacksonville to Series Win Against North Florida

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Austin Hays blasted a pair of three-run home runs and Spencer Stockton tossed seven shutout frames in an 8-0 Atlantic Sun victory and series-clinching win against North Florida Sunday at Sessions Stadium.

"That was another great team win similar to yesterday," said Head Coach Tim Montez. "The pitchers did a great job pounding and controlling the zone. Our lineup put together a well-balanced attack, and what more can you say about Hays? He's doing a good job of staying humble and in the moment."

Jacksonville (19-12, 2-1) drew first blood for the second consecutive day from a Seth DeWitt first inning RBI. With two outs and a Parker Perez steal of second base, the designated hitter sliced a single to right-center field that scored Perez.

An inning later, Hays extended the lead over North Florida (20-14, 2-4) with a three-run tater over the left field wall. His home run was set up by a Dakota Julylia single and Michael Babb walk.

His second blast of the day carried out to straightaway center field in the fourth. It was another three-run liftoff that scored Mike Cassala and Perez, who each singled. After JJ Gould's second double of the day, Austin Drury (2-1) was replaced by Matt Vaka. DeWitt then stroked another RBI single to plate Gould, and Jacksonville had an eight-run lead through four innings.

Drury's eight runs were all earned. He gave up nine hits with two walks and three strikeouts in 3.1 innings. Vaka surrendered four hits in 3.2 scoreless relief innings.

Stockton (4-2) gave up just three hits and three walks over his seven scoreless innings in his fourth win of the season.

Chris Gau and Kyle Arjona each pitched one inning of hitless relief.

The Dolphins totaled 14 hits with multi-hit games from Hays, Gould, DeWitt, Camacho, Julylia, and Cassala. The six RBI for Hays was a career high.

Up next, Jacksonville travels for a mid-week non-conference game to face Florida A&M on Tuesday.
