LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Jacksonville University volleyball team fell in the first of two road weekend matches Friday evening, 3-0, at Liberty University.

Continuing her assault at the net, sophomore Hannah Marchand recorded four blocks to bring her weekly total to 11, including seven last Tuesday against Stetson. Juniors Mallory Mattingly and Natalie Wehner posted 12 kills and 14 digs, respectively, while freshman Natalie Martin added 21 assists – all match-highs for the night.

Opening the first set with momentum, Jacksonville came out on a 6-1 tear and later extended its lead to 10-4. As Liberty came within two, 11-9, the Dolphins again distanced themselves with kills from Hailey Devlin and Mallory Mattingly for a 15-11 lead. A decisive 8-0 run by the hosts put the set out of reach despite a three-point rally that held Liberty at set point before the Flames took the opener, 25-21.

Jacksonville (3-19, 2-8 ASUN) led 15-12 after an early back-and-forth battle in the second set, but a media timeout gifted the hosts a break to find a 5-0 run to steal a 17-15 advantage. The Dolphins rallied to tie things up twice thereafter, but it wasn't enough to hold off the Flames' 25-21 set win.

Though the Dolphins battled throughout the set, including a pair of 4-1 runs down the stretch, an early 8-2 deficit was too much to overcome as Liberty (9-13, 6-3 ASUN) finished the match with a 25-18 win.

Jacksonville returns to the Sunshine State for a matchup at Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 2 p.m.
