Women's Soccer Falls To UNF In 2-1 Season Finisher

JACKSONVILLE, FLA – The Jacksonville University women's soccer team traveled locally on Sunday evening as they closed out their regular season at The University of North Florida. The final conference match up resulted in a 2-1 loss for the Dolphins (0-13-3).

"I was proud of the way some of our younger players battled tonight," commented Head Coach Laura Busby.

Senior Kristian Shores, who was recognized as the Hodges Mazda Player Of The Game started in goal for her eight consecutive appearance. Shores recorded 6 saves on the evening and faced a total of 18 shots. Shores, who had been a regular between the pipes for the second half the season ranks in the top 5 in both overall saves and save percentage.

Jacksonville was unable to get off any shots in the first half. However, the defensive effort by senior Kayla Hancock, junior Kylie McCue, sophomore Makenzie Kavanagh, and freshman Rachel Walters is credited with aiding Shores in holding off scoring from UNF. Shores recorded 5 saves and faced a total of 10 shots in the first half. After the first half JU and UNF were knotted in a scoreless tie.

UNF took an early lead in the second half with a goal scored by Thais Reiss assisted by Oliveira Carmel.

Jacksonville answered back quickly at 52:32 when freshman forward Olivia Abdallah beat the UNF defender and keeper to record her fifth goal of the season. The tying goal was assisted by junior midfielder Lauren Caffee.

"Although we didn't get the result, Olivia Abdallah scored another great goal and freshman midfielder Shelby Brim battled in our midfield. Kylie McCue also played a vital role in our back line all season and she returns next year," Busby added.

UNF came back to break the tie at 62:40 with a goal scored by Lisa Cedeno assisted by Reiss.

The two shots of the night for Jacksonville occurred within a minute of each other from Abdallah and senior midfielder Maya Fisher at 74:24. Despite a hard fought effort the Dolphins were unable to tie the game for a second time and ended in a final score of 2-1.

"It was a tough season filled with adversity four our team. The future is bright for JU women's soccer and we are looking forward to the next chapter," Busby concluded.
