Jacksonville Goes on the Road and Takes Care of Business at Stetson, 93-70

DELAND, Fla.
– The Jacksonville University men's basketball team (12-15, 5-7 ASUN) jumped ahead early, then got hot from long range en route to a big road win at Stetson (5-21, 1-10 ASUN), 93-70.

The Dolphins handed out 22 assists on 38 made baskets and canned 14 triples, a season-high against Division I competition. JD Notae led the team in scoring with 17 points to go with seven boards and a steal while Jace Hogan got going for 15 points after a lengthy cold streak in conference play. Tyreese Davis and DeAnthony McCallum both stayed hot with 13 points apiece.

The Dolphins led 30-19 with 9:05 to play in the first half but by the 6:08 mark Stetson had cut it to a 33-31 ball game. JD Notae made a driving layup on the other end and the run was on. By the 43-second mark in the first half the Dolphins had put together a 12-0 run that ballooned into a 15-2 run when Notae canned a triple at the buzzer to give JU a 48-33 lead at the break.

Jacksonville opened the second half with a 25-7 run that put this game away. By the 12:04 mark, Notae as burying another triple to make it 73-40. The Dolphins stayed hot throughout the second half and the lead was as large as 34 with 10:25 left after a Bryce Workman finish in the lane. Coach Jasick emptied the bench and the two sides went back and forth from then on.

The Dolphins now turn their attention to round two of the River City Rumble. That game will take place a week from tonight at 7 p.m. after an extended break for Jacksonville. That matchup will have serious postseason implications as the middle of the ASUN standings begin to bunch up with home games in the conference tournament within grasp.
