JACKSONVILLE, Fla.
– The Jacksonville University men's basketball team (12-16, 5-8 ASUN) took the River City Rumble against North Florida (13-16, 7-7) to overtime on Wednesday night but the breaks did not fall in favor of the home side in this one, 80-73.

Jace Hogan built on his stellar performance from a week ago with a season-high 26 points to go with 12 rebounds giving him his third 20-point performance of the season and third double-double of his senior campaign. Only David Bell joined Hogan in double figures. He posted 13 points and nine boards before fouling out near the end of regulation.

In their first overtime contest of the season, the Dolphins, once again, held one of the three-point shooting teams in the nation south of 30 percent from long range (7-25) and 42.6 percent from the floor. The defense forced 12 turnovers and turned those into 11 points on the other end. Jacksonville outrebounded the Ospreys, 51-41, and was dominant on the offensive glass, dropping in 27 second chance points.

There was rarely much separation in this game. UNF never led by more than seven and JU once held and eight-point advantage but that was as lopsided as it got. There were 11 ties and 15 lead changes, similar to the first meeting in the series this season.

At the 6:57 mark in the first half, UNF moved ahead by six, 26-20, and the score stayed right there for the better part of three minutes until JD Notae found room in the lane and converted two of his seven points. The Ospreys later knocked in a triple with 3:28 left in the half to take that lone seven-point lead.

The Dolphins closed the first half on a 9-2 run and even had a shot to tie the game just before the break, but a pair of free throws fell to the side for Hogan and UNF took a 31-29 advantage into the locker room.

Jacksonville came out of the locker room and quickly pushed its way into the lead with a 4-0 run to start the half. After quite a bit of back and forth with multiple lead changes the Dolphins used an 8-0 run with the game tied at 45 to take its largest lead with 9:35 to play in the game. UNF responded with a 14-2 run and it was game on from then on.

Tyreese Davis battled his way to an offensive rebound and lay-in to tie the game at 62 with 2:40 to play in the game. Notae got out on the break and knocked in a jumper to take the lead with 1:55 left and later had a trio of free throws with 16 seconds left with the Dolphins down one, of which he made just one to send this game to overtime.

The Ospreys got hot in the extra period and jumped ahead early. JU responded but was unable to climb all the way back through the deficit and had to settle for defeat, 80-73.

Next up for JU will be a date with NJIT on Saturday night at 6 p.m.
