Dolphins Go Yard In 8-0 Shutout of Harvard

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville softball (5-5) put together a dominant performance over Harvard (0-2) Friday evening, completing an 8-0 shutout in six innings. The 'Phins hit three home runs, including one in the bottom of the sixth that put them up eight and ended the ball game.

Jacksonville wasted no time grabbing runs in this one, as four scored in the first inning. It was Victoria Rodebaugh crossing home plate first for JU after being hit by a pitch and then advancing thanks to successful at-bats by the top half of the order. The Dolphins made a real splash when sophomore Abby Genest sent a 3-run homer over the right field fence.

The next four innings were quiet for both teams as the pitchers went to work. Alyssa Bilodeau, who was making her fourth start in this one, had an outstanding six innings pitched. The junior allowed just two hits and recorded eight strikeouts, a career-high.

Jacksonville got the bats moving again in the bottom of the sixth, beginning with a leadoff home run by Hannah Roberts. It was the sophomore's third homer of the season. Following Roberts, Makenzie Buss reached with a single and Serena Quinata was walked. The game was put to rest one batter later when Carolyn O'Neal sent a 3-run blast over the fence, putting JU up eight and ending the game.

Six Dolphins recorded hits in the game, with Genest and O'Neal combining for six RBIs. The shutout was the first of the season for Bilodeau, and third overall for JU.

The 'Phins hit the field again tomorrow on the second day of the Jacksonville Classic tournament. They face Harvard once again at 3:30 PM before matching up with the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds, who won both their games on Friday.
