JACKSONVILLE, Fla – Jacksonville University baseball completed the sweep over Brown (1-9) winning 11-2 on Sunday afternoon at John Sessions Stadium.
AJ Jones continued the strong pitching from JU starters throwing seven innings with eleven strikeouts. A couple of home runs and a triple by the Dolphins (9-6) helped finish this series.
Jones took care of the first three Brown batters of the game in a total of 4 minutes with two strikeouts and a pop up.
Ruben Someillan started the game off for JU with a double to left center, right over the head of the left fielder.
Angel Camacho then singled up the middle actually hitting the Brown pitcher which put runners on the corners.
Scott Dubrule hit another ball up the middle this time missing the pitcher and scoring Someillan for the Dolphins first run.
Jones then stranded runners on second and third base in the top of the 2nd by recording his fourth strikeout in just two innings. He didn't stop there, continuing his streak of two strikeouts per inning giving him 6 K's by the middle of the 3rd. Jones then proceeded to show his stuff by striking out two more batters AGAIN in the top of the 4th giving him 8 K's through 4 innings.
In the bottom of the 4th with two outs,
Duncan Hunter drew a walk and then stole second base.
Cory Garrastazu followed that up with a ball smoked down the right field line for a stand up double scoring Hunter to make it 2-0 Dolphins.
With two outs in the bottom of the 5th,
Jacob Southern crushed a three run homerun to left center scoring Camacho and
Dakota Julylia to make it 5-0 for the Phin's.
Brown got onto the board with a sac fly in the top of the 6th but was unearned due to an error earlier in the inning by the Dolphins.
Cory Heffron added another two out blast to left center in the bottom of the 6th to make it 6-1.
The Dolphins continued to put up runs in the bottom of the 7th off a RBI single from Southern and then a bases loaded triple by Garrastazu with two outs making it 10-1. A wild pitch brought home Garrastazu finishing up the scoring for JU 11-2.
Jagger McCoy struck out the side in the top of the 8th.
Kevin Faulkner recorded the first two outs of the 9th when
Ruairi Murphy walked two and gave up a double to left center to give the Browns their second run of the game.
Next up JU has USF on Tuesday night (7 pm) at John Sessions Stadium.
