Box Score 2 CONWAY, S.C. - Jacksonville softball (6-9) earned a come-from-behind victory over Radford on the second day of the Chanticleer Showdown on Saturday. A total four home runs on the day had Jacksonville sitting at 1-2 in the tournament after ending the night with a loss to Austin Peay.
VS Radford
Bilodeau was in the circle for JU for a second consecutive game at the Chanticleer Showdown. The La Plata, Md. native went seven innings and struck out eight on the way to her third win of the season. Runs in the first and fourth were all Bilodeau allowed on seven hits, and the Dolphins' lineup did the rest of the work.
Jacksonville's offense got off to a hot start in the top of the first innings. After Buss was hit by a pitch to begin the game, the senior stole second, and then scored thanks to a sacrifice fly by Hannah Roberts. Scoreless through the next two innings, the game saw Radford take their first lead when they grabbed a run in the fourth.
The Dolphins were quick to resend as Serena Quinata homered in the sixth inning, driving in Abby Genest as well as herself. The 'Phins then built upon their lead in the top of the seventh when Hannah Roberts sent a 2-run home run over the center field fence. It was her fourth home run in 2019. Bilodeau managed to retire the Highlanders in order in the bottom of the seventh, and Jacksonville collected their first victory on the road this season.Â
Roberts led the Dolphins with three RBIs after going 2-3 at the plate. Nydia Perez also went 2-3 and reached on a walk as well. Quinata's home run gave the sophomore her sixth and seventh RBIs of the season.Â
VS Austin Peay
Junior Seana Mora was given the nod in the second game of the day for JU and recorded three strikeouts before eventually being replaced by sophomore Maddie Kaufman.Â
Both teams made their way onto the scoreboard during the second inning, and the score sat tied at 1-1 heading into the third. It was Serena Quinata doing the work once more for Jacksonville as she hit her second home run of the day.Â
In the third, a 2-run home run and an Austin Peay score on a wild pitch put the 'Phins down 4-1. The Governors struck again one inning later with another home run to push their lead to four. This time, Jacksonville countered with a home run of their own in the bottom half of the inning off the bat of Abby Genest.
Jacksonville's hitting slowed down in the final few innings, and a big top of the seventh for the Governors resulted in the 9-2 final.
Jacksonville resumes play tomorrow on the final day of the tournament. They'll face Coastal Carolina once more at 1:15 PM.
