Early Lead Squandered In Series Finale Vs Stetson

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville University softball (13-18, 1-2 ASUN) concluded their weekend series with Stetson (11-17, 2-1 ASUN) Sunday afternoon with a game that saw plenty of action on both sides. Ultimately, the Hatters' 12 runs were more than Jacksonville could overcome in the late innings.

The Dolphins jumped out to an early lead in this one after a big bottom of the second. Haley Holloway and Kasi Shaffer each produced RBI singles in the inning, while Victoria Rodebaugh scored on a Stetson throwing error. Jacksonville led 3-0 as the game entered the third, which was the largest lead they'd held all weekend.

The Hatters came back with a big third inning that saw five runs score on three hits and gave them a 5-3 lead. After more Hatters crossed the plate in the fourth and sixth, Alyssa Bilodeau was replaced in the circle by Maddie Kaufman.

Before leaving the game, Bilodeau produced seven strikeouts against 37 batters faced. Stetson scored five more runs in the top of the fifth to put JU in a 12-4 hole that they wouldn't climb out of before the end of the game. The Dolphins did continue to string together at-bats, and recorded hits in four of the final five innings. As a team, the 'Phins recorded nine hits in each game of the series.

Rodebaugh went 2-3 at the plate for the Dolphins, while also scoring twice herself. Abby Genest also recorded a pair of hits on the day. Holloway, Shaffer, and Makenzie Buss each had one RBI. Junior Kassidy Cross managed to extend her hitting streak to 20 games with a single in the bottom of the seventh. Bilodeau ends the weekend 1-1 to push her record to 7-8 on the season.
