Dolphins Power Their Way to a Pair of Victories on Friday Night

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville University softball team (9-11) certainly made its presence felt on day one of the JU/UNF Spring Break Challenge, powering its way to a pair of victories; first over Georgetown, 5-1, then over Presbyterian in the nightcap, 10-3.

Kassidy Cross was the lone Dolphin to pick up multiple hits in each game. She went 2-3 with a triple and two runs scored and a pair of stolen bases in the first game to nearly single-handedly guide her team to victory against the Hoyas. Against Presbyterian, Cross was 2-4 with a double in the middle of a JU order that was all over the base paths against the Blue Hose.

In total, the Dolphins collected 18 hits across both games and produced all 15 RBI's while limiting strikeouts to just seven total.

Speaking of strikeouts, the arms in the circle on Friday night were absolutely a major part of the story. Seana Mora took the ball for the Dolphins in game one and 6.0 innings of one-run, four-hit ball before turning it over to Alyssa Bilodeau in the seventh after loading the bases. Bilodeau surrendered just one run that belonged to Mora and locked down victory number one.

In the second game, Haley Holloway brushed aside a shaky start to the night and settled into a nice groove. In the top of the first, she allowed a couple baserunners to reach, one by error, before surrendering a deep homer to right center to put her team in a 3-0 hole. But that was all the scoring the Blue Hose would find off Holloway. She settled in and ultimately surrendered just six hits in the complete-game effort while also striking out six.

Makenzie Buss and Carolyn O'Neal each homered against Presbyterian. O'Neal was 2-4 at the plate in game two and produced five RBI. Serena Quinata went 2-2 for three RBI against Georgetown to help spark the offence in game one.

Just one game for the Dolphins on Saturday as they'll be back under the lights at the Pruitt Softball Complex at 7 p.m. opposite UNCW. That will be the fourth of four more games at Pruitt on Saturday with three more on deck for Sunday. JU will play twice on Sunday, first at 11:30 a.m. opposite Cleveland State then at 2 p.m. against Charleston Southern.
