Box Score 2 FORT MYERS, Fla. - Jacksonville University softball (13-29, 1-11 ASUN) played the final two games of the weekend series with FGCU (24-16, 9-3 ASUN) Sunday afternoon. Jacksonville recorded 11 hits in the two games, but couldn't outdo FGCU's 14 combined runs.
Game One
Unlike Saturday's contest, Jacksonville made contact with six of their first seven batters and recorded hits in each of the first four innings. However, it was the Eagles making a big splash in the second that put Jacksonville in a 5-0 hole.Â
Jacksonville's lone run came during the third inning when Victoria Rodebaugh scored on a throwing error by the Eagles. It was one of two runs the freshman scored Sunday. Meanwhile, another run scored in the third for the Eagles, prompting a slew of defensive changes including Maddie Kaufman entering the game to pitch.Â
The Eagles added one more run in the sixth to give themselves the 7-1 victory. Alyssa Bilodeau received the loss after starting the game and pitching the first two innings. Although four runs scored on Bilodeau, only two were earned. Hannah Roberts recorded her second double of the weekend, and Seana Mora became the third Dolphin to hit a triple this season.Â
Game Two
Rodebaugh led off the second game with a single up the middle and made her way to second with a stolen base. However, no runs scored for JU before FGCU put together another big inning.
It was in the third that one run scored and baserunners began to accumulate when Mora was replace in the circle by Bilodeau. Three more runs scored for the Eagles before Jacksonville managed to record an out in the inning.Â
After a scoreless fourth, the Eagles added a fifth run in the bottom of the fifth. It was in the top of the sixth that JU finally cut into the Eagle lead thanks to a 2-run home run by junior Makenzie Buss. After the Eagles responded with two runs of their own half an inning later, the lead was out of reach and the final sat at 7-2.
Buss, who went 2-3 in the game, now leads the team with six homers. Rodebaugh also went 2-3 in the game and totaled three hits on the day. Haley Holloway was the other Dolphin to succesfully make contact.
Mora was handed the loss and goes to 4-11 on the season. On the other side, FGCU's Riley Randolph finished with 10 strikeouts and received her second win of the weekend.
Up next, Jacksonville travels to Lynchburg, Va. to take on the Liberty Flames (30-15, 13-3 ASUN). Jacksonville is 3-0 all-time against the ASUN newcomers. The series kicks off with a doubleheader on Friday, April 19.
