KENNESAW, Ga. – Continuing a legacy! The Jacksonville University women's lacrosse team scored 10 goals in each half and held Kennesaw State scoreless the entire second period as the Dolphins claimed their seventh-straight ASUN Conference regular season title – and eighth in program history – with a 20-3 victory Thursday afternoon at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
 
To sweeten the win, sophomore Megan Prescott became the eighth player in program history to reach 100 career draw controls. The last player to achieve the feat was teammate and junior McKenna Rushford on April 5.
 
"This game is for our seniors. We don't have many and have lost some to injury over the years, but they have proved to be amazing champions and today's game belongs to them. We have battled a lot of adversity together and we still have some amazing stories to tell," commented Associate Head Coach Paul McCord following the game. The 2019 senior class has now earned four straight regular season ASUN Conference titles in their career.
 
"The 9-0 start was impressive. We hit a lull for a bit and then finished the game on a 10-0 run. When this team puts their mind to something, they really do it!"
 
With nine unanswered goals to start the first half, the Dolphins quickly took command of the game. Three Dolphins recorded a pair of points during that run, as redshirt-junior Erin McGuire (28:15, 18:08) and sophomore Lauren Phillips (21:41, 19:54) both scored twice, while sophomore Alyssa Arnold went 1-and-1 with a goal (16:05) and an assist (25:58).
 
Though Kennesaw State was able to answer with three of the final four goals of the half – two off the stick of ASUN leading scorer Siena Gore – Jacksonville's defense stifled the hosts through the final 31:11 of the game.
 
Sophomore Jenny Kinsey led the Dolphins in the second half with a goal (20:27) and two assists (22:30, 17:19), while graduate student Hayley Ciklin knocked two of her four goals in the opening 10 minutes of the second half (23:13, 21:42). Prescott (17:19, 15:06) and junior Alexis Deaken (10:54, 5:57) added back-to-back goals to extend the Dolphins' lead.
 
Ciklin (4g) and Kinsey (2g, 2a) finished the day with four points each, while Deaken (3g), Phillips (2g, 1a), and Prescott (2g, 1a) chipped in three points apiece. Kinsey had a solid day with a career-high six ground balls and one caused turnover, and Prescott (4 DCs) combined with Rushford (4 DCs) and freshman Molly Brock (4 DCs) for 12 of the Dolphins' 13 draw controls. Rushford also recorded a team-high three caused turnovers.
 
With five ground balls and two caused turnovers to close out the game, freshman goalie Dayna Martinetto has now posted multiple ground balls in six games and multiple caused turnovers in four games this season. Martinetto and redshirt-freshman Sharn Muffett split time in the crease, as Martinetto earned the win and picked up four saves, while Muffett added one save in 8:00.
 
The Dolphins return to action on Saturday, April 20 when they visit Mercer at noon.
