MACON, Ga. – With seven points in today's road win, senior captain
Lillie Miller posted her 150th career point to lead the Jacksonville University women's lacrosse team to a dominating 21-6 win in its final non-conference matchup against Mercer, on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Five Star Stadium. Jacksonville is now 13-3 on the year, while Mercer falls to 7-9.
Eleven players found the back of the net, as Miller, sophomore
Jenny Kinsey (4 goals, 1 assist), and graduate student
Hayley Ciklin (3 goals, 1 assist) combined for 15 of the Dolphins' 27 points on the day. Miller also finished a perfect 4-for-4 from the eight-meter line.
"Starting and finishing strong has been key to our success. Our team does a great job of staying in the moment and working together to play our style of game," commented head coach
Mindy McCord following the game.
"They learn and adapt quickly, which has been something we have been wanting to get better in all season. Having all of our players get on the field and make things happen shows our depth is strong. Getting every player some experience in both games this weekend is a great team win. Today, senior captain Lilly Miller led the way with seven points.
Dayna Martinetto continues to show great success with nine saves; as a freshman, she's clearly one of the best in the nation."
With nine goals in the first 10 minutes of play, the Dolphins quickly established their rhythm. Ciklin notched all three of her goals during that run, including back-to-back tallies at 25:38 and 24:56.
Jacksonville's defense did not allow the host Bears to score more than two consecutive goals during the game, despite a 5-3 run that spanned the final 12:23 of the first half and the opening 5:19 of the second. Although the run brought Mercer within seven, 13-6, Jacksonville quickly shut the door on any hopes of a Bear rally; the Dolphins scored the final eight goals and held Mercer scoreless through the final 24:41 of the game.
In that final run, Miller scored three of her four second-half goals – including two of her four free-position tallies.
On the draw, junior
McKenna Rushford won a game-high seven restarts, while sophomore
Megan Prescott and freshman
Molly Brock combined for 10 with five each. All three Dolphins also scored in the effort.
Between the pipes, freshman
Dayna Martinetto continued her All-American season with nine saves, highlighted by six in the second half, for her 13th win. Redshirt-freshman
Sharn Muffett also saw time in the cage.
For the Bears, Hailey Rhatigan, Eva Thorn, and Caroline Kerr all scored twice, while Iseabal Cryne and Dylan Malamala split duties in the crease. Cryne finished the day with five saves, all in the first half, while Malamala recorded nine saves in 42:23 of action.
The Dolphins close out the regular season next Sunday, April 28 at ASUN foe Stetson; opening draw is set for 2 p.m.
