JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville University softball (15-33, 3-15 ASUN) earned a series win on Monday by taking down the Ospreys for a second time in two days. After jumping out to a 2-0 lead, the Ospreys made a late push to cut the deficit in half, but Jacksonville held onto the 2-1 final. It was the third game of the series that was decided by a single run.
Baserunners were numerous throughout the game for the 'Phins as runners were left on in six of seven innings. A 7-6 advantage in the hit category also helped JU's cause.Â
The Dolphins scored a first inning run for a second time this series. A single by catcher Abby Genest that scored Victoria Rodebaugh gave JU the early 1-0 lead. An inning later, Makenzie Buss knocked in a run with a single to left field.Â
Things got quiet during the middle innings as Bilodeau went to work. After pitching 12 innings yesterday, the junior held UNF scoreless until the fifth inning and struck out three. The Ospreys eventually scored on a bunt, but it was unearned for Bilodeau.Â
The Ospreys managed to get the game-tying run to second base during the final half inning as the game looked like it may reach extras for a second time in the series. However, a final out in left field solidified the 2-1 final and gave Jacksonville their second River City Rumble series victory in two years.Â
Buss reached four times in the game after going 2-4 and getting hit by two pitches. Buss was also credited with one of the Dolphins' two RBIs. Serena Quinata and Nydia Perez each reached twice with a hit and a walk. With the win, Bilodeau earned her ninth victory of the season.Â
Next, Jacksonville hosts it's final series of the regular season against ASUN newcomer North Alabama (23-18, 8-10). That series will begin Friday, May 3 at 4 PM.
