JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville University softball (13-26, 1-8 ASUN) played the finale of their weekend series with Lipscomb (27-12-1, 6-3 ASUN) on Sunday afternoon. After trailing by two for most of the game, the Dolphins scored one and had the game-tying run at third base in the bottom of the seventh. Unable to drive in the equalizer, the 'Phins fell 2-1 in front of a home crowd.
Jacksonville's pitchers held the Bisons to just two runs on seven hits, each coming in the fourth inning. Junior Alyssa Bilodeau allowed both runs after recording a pair of strikeouts and holding the Bisons to four hits through 3.1 innings. Seana Mora replace Bilodeau and held Lipscomb scoreless throughout the remainder of the game.
The Dolphins stared at the 2-run lead through three innings before finally scoring in the bottom of the seventh. The run was created after Kassidy Cross slapped a 2-out single to right field, then was sent home on a Hannah Roberts double that rode the left field line. Roberts advanced to third on the play, and represented the game-tying run, but the 'Phins were unable to complete the comeback.Â
Cross' single was her second hit of the game. It was the 17th multi-hit game the Brandywine, Md. native has recorded this season. Roberts also went 2-4 in the game, and now has seven doubles this year. Maddie Kaufman did her part at the plate, recording hits both times she batted in the DP position. Makenzie Buss successfully stole two bags in the game after reaching on balls and being hit by a pitch.
Bilodeau was given the loss and goes to 7-12 this season. Lipscomb's Chloe Yeager was given the win, and Mary Jordan was credited with her first save of the year.
Jacksonville will have the week to rest before going down to Fort Myers, Fla. to face the FGCU Eagles (21-16, 6-3 ASUN). Game one of the three game series is scheduled for Saturday, April 13 at 2 PM.
