JU Bested By UCF

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University baseball fell to UCF 8-2 on Tuesday night at John Sessions Stadium.

The Dolphins (20-13) left 10 men on base, allowing six runs over the final three innings to drop the final of four matchups with the Knights this year.

Jacksonville struck first with one in the third thanks to a two-out rally. Scott Dubrule and Jacob Southern drew back-to-back walks and Cory Heffron singled through the hole at short to drive in Dubrule.

UCF immediately answered in the top of the fourth. A leadoff walk followed by a double to left, and with one-out double to plate two and give the Knights a 2-1 lead.

JU had a response in the bottom half, tying it up when Reagan Wright walked and went to second when Ruben Someillan was hit by a pitch, finally coming home on Dakota Julylia's RBI single. Dubrule followed that up with a single to left, but Someillan was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.

It stayed deadlocked 2-2 until the seventh. UCF managed two hits off reliever Nick Love (3-1) in his first inning of work. With a runner on third, a wild pitch allowed the go-ahead run to score.

UCF added one more in the eighth on a solo home run to left and then finished the night with a four run ninth thanks to a grand slam.

Jacksonville stays at home to welcome new conference foe North Alabama to town for a three game series starting Friday at 2 p.m.
