CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Jacksonville University baseball dropped the opening game of the series 12-1 to Austin Peay at Raymond Hand Park on Friday night.
The Dolphins (24-21) struggled to hit with runners in scoring position and saw a three-game win streak end.
Austin Peay struck first, with a solo home run in the bottom of the first.
John Cassala led off the second with a single past the diving third baseman into left and stole second base, but was stranded there. In the fourth,
Scott Dubrule walked to start the frame and stole second, but was caught trying to take third to end the inning.
The Governors extended the lead starting in the fourth and never looked back. A leadoff walk and a double two batters later led to one run, and a single to center right after that plated a second. APSU led 3-0 after four.
In the fifth, another run scored for Austin Peay when two singles started the inning, an intentional walk loaded them with two outs and a wild pitch plated a run to make it 4-0.
Tyler Santana's (3-3) night ended after five, and the Jacksonville bullpen could not keep it close. Austin Peay added one more in the sixth, four in the seventh and three more in the eighth, as the Governors scored in six of eight innings, including five in a row to end the game.
Jacksonville got its lone run on an RBI double to center by
Ruben Someillan, scoring
Cory Heffron after he walked with two outs. Someillan was thrown out at third trying to stretch it into a triple.
Tomorrow's game two is scheduled for 2 p.m.
