JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville University women's soccer team returned home to Southern Oak Stadium on Friday night to host Air Force Academy in a non-conference matchup. The Dolphins (0-4-1) tied Air Force in a double-overtime finisher that resulted in a scoreless final.
"I am proud of them for the resiliency that they showed tonight. That is the first time we battled beyond 90 minutes. I'm so proud of them for despite only having 13 healthy field players they were able to find a way to dig deep through double overtime," commented Head Coach
Laura Busby.
The JU midfield is credited with four out of the six shots made on the night. Freshman
Lola Negrete, junior
Emma Vasquez, and seniors
Kacie Patterson and
Maya Fisher each recorded one for the home team. Freshman defender
Rachel Walters registered the remaining two.
"We have got to find a way to put the ball in the back of the net. We say say win the boxes and obviously we did enough to tie the game tonight just based on our defensive efforts. Every single player defended well front to back and that wasn't just our backline and Kristian," added Busby
Senior goalkeeper
Kristian Shores, who is recognized as tonight's
Hodges Mazda Player Of The Game recorded 10 saves for the Dolphins tonight.
'I think we have turned a corner in terms of finding it within ourselves to believe that we can win games. Ultimately we will head into Sunday with some more confidence, " Busby concluded.
The Dolphins will continue their weekend home stand at Southern Oak Stadium on Sunday afternoon at 4p.m. when they will host Troy.
