MOBILE, ALA- Jacksonville softball closed out a successful first weekend on the road with a 8-2 victory over University Of Memphis on Sunday morning.
" I love the toughness we are playing with right now. We put pressure on them just about every inning. The discipline we had at the plate along with very good base-running and a few timely hits allows us to put a big number on the board," commented Head Coach
Erica Ayers.
Alyssa Bilodeau started in the circle, pitching five innings before being replaced by
Seana Mora. Bilodeau struck out 11 batters while only allowing four hits and two runs. Mora, who stepped in to relief struck out one batter while only giving up one hit.
"Alyssa gave us a good start and Seana pitched two clean innings in relief," Ayers continued.Â
While the pitching held things down on the defensive end the offense got the job done at the plate. Runs were plentiful for the Dolphins this morning.
Carolyn O'Neal recorded the first run of the morning after reaching home on a wild pitch.
Serena Quinata followed quickly behind bringing in run number two from third base when
Makenzie Buss singled to center field.
The momentum continued in the third inning when
Hannah Roberts hit a solo homerun to left field. Roberts and Buss are both tied for leading the Dolphins in home runs this season with two each.
After an uneventful fourth inning for both sides the Dolphins came back swinging in the fifth to drive home four more runs. After reaching first on a fielding error and moving around the bases
Makenzie Buss scored when
Kassidy Cross singled up the middle. Bases were loaded when
Kayana Perez scored as a result of
Carolyn O'Neal being hit by a pitch.
Kassidy Cross and Alyssa Gennaro-Ferrante scored the final two runs of the inning to give JU a 7-1 lead.
Buss closed out the afternoon for the Dolphins scoring again in the sixth after Roberts flew out to right field.
Alyssa Dean is credited with both Memphis runs of the morning.
The Dolphins will return home to Jacksonville this weekend for the JU/UNF Spring Break Challenge featuring Virginia Tech, Akron, Purdue, and Stony Brook.
