JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University baseball dropped an 11-7 contest to Austin Peay on Saturday at John Sessions Stadium.
The Dolphins (4-7) saw its three-game winning streak snapped in a back-an-forth affair.
Jacksonville drew first blood for the second straight day, pushing across two in the first inning.
Ruben Someillan walked and
Scott Dubrule singled, but an unsuccessful sacrifice bunt led to Someillan being thrown out at third.
Christian Coipel then singled to load the bases, before
Jacob Southern singled through the left side to drive in the first run.
Stephen Moffatt knocked in the second when he beat out a potential double play at first to score
Cory Heffron.
Austin Peay took the lead for the first time in the series in the third.
Tyler Santana (0-2) walked two batters to start the frame, then got a double play. The next batter reached on an error on Dubrule, and hit two more singles and a double following that to take a 4-3 lead.
The Dolphins answered right back. Coipel and Moffatt both walked, and with one-out,
Elias Flowers singled into center to drive in one and tie the game at four. With two outs,
Dakota Julylia sent a single into the outfield and knocked in two more to give Jacksonville a 5-4 lead.
The Govenors took the lead for good in the fifth. A one-out single followed by a two-run home run ended Santana's day, and put Austin Peay in front 7-5. They added insurance runs in the sixth and eighth, before tacking on three more in the top of the ninth to extend the advantage to 11-5.
Coipel walked to start the bottom of the ninth and Southern left the yard on a skyscraper to left field, but the rally ended after that.
