Box Score 2 JACKSONVILLE ,FLA- Jacksonville Softball saw big action on Saturday afternoon as they hosted two Power Five Conference members at Pruitt Softball Complex. The Dolphins went 0-2 against Virginia Tech and Purdue
GAME ONE
Jacksonville struggled to find answers against Virginia Tech in game one. The Hookies powered over JU by a final score of 6-0 as Keeley Rochard pitched a perfect game.
Alyssa Bilodeau was given the nod and went four innings before
Seana Mora came in to relieve her. During her time in the circle Bilodeau struck out four batters but could not prevent Virginia Tech from racking up a plethora of runs.
Once Mora entered in the top of the fifth, she put forward her best effort to strike out four batters and only allow Virginia Tech to tally one more run.
Despite the pitching change the Dolphins were unable to make a go of it and fell to Virginia Tech in a 6-0 final.
GAME TWO
The Dolphins came back stronger in game two but fell to Purdue in extra innings.
"This one stings for us because I felt like the game was right there for us to take but we couldn't get the little things done that we needed to win a close ballgame against a good team. We spotted them one run and then took the lead late but lead off walks always come back to bite you. We will come back tomorrow and take it out on the next team," commented Head Coach
Erica Ayers.
Skylar Whitty faced 32 batters and struck out six through all eight innings.
It wasn't until the top of the third when both teams opened scoring. Perdue got on the board first when Ryleigh Scott scored off an RBI single from Rachel Becker.
Jacksonville answered back in the bottom half when
Hallie Kern scored from second base off an RBI single from
Makenzie Buss.
The game stayed knotted until the bottom of the sixth when
Ashley Darakjian broke the tie for Jacksonville. Darakjian entered at first to pinch run for
Kassidy Cross after she singled to second base and advanced to third after
Hannah Roberts double. She broke the tie as a result of
Serena Quinata reaching first on a fielder's choice.
Purdue tied the game in the seventh and forced extra innings when Becca Jones scored. The Boilermakers recorded three runs in the top of the eighth to take a 5-2 lead over.
Haley Holloway started the bottom of the eighth on second base and found her way home after
Jacqueline Hodskins singled deep to center field. Jacksonville put up a hard fight in the scoring the one run, but they were unable to squeeze in any more runs before the final out of the night.
Quinata, Buss, and Hodskins all earned one RBI on the night.
Next up, Jacksonville hosts Stony Brook University tomorrow afternoon at 12:30PM before setting out on another Alabama road trip next weekend.
