Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Fla- Jacksonville University softball (15-11) hosted their first midweek game of the season with Auburn University on Tuesday evening. The game saw plenty of action on both sides but ultimately the Tigers' 6 runs were more than Jacksonville could overcome in the later frames as the Dolphins took a 6-2 decision.Â
The Dolphins jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first.
Kassidy Cross produced an RBI single in the inning scoring Makenize Buss from second base after she walked and advanced on a wild pitch.
Jacksonville held the 1-0 for just a short moment. The Tigers tied the game in the top of the second and had a big third inning that saw four runs on two hits to take the 5-1 lead.
After the Tigers grabbed the 5-1 lead
Skylar Whitty was replaced in the circle by
Seana Mora. Â Before handing over the ball, Whitty struck out just one batter against her 16 batters faced. Once Mora entered, she held the Tigers to just one run through her four innings pitched.
The Dolphins continued to string together at-bats, and recorded four hits and one run through the final three innings, but they were unable to match the six runs Auburn had put up.
Buss reached home again in the bottom of the fifth with the help of
Victoria Rodebaugh,
Hannah Roberts and Cross. Â Buss went 1-3 at the plate for the Dolphins, while also scoring twice herself.
Cross went 2-3 with an RBI while
Carolyn O'Neal and
Jacqueline Hodskins each went 1-3.
Next, Jacksonville hosts their final tournament of the season this weekend with the Jax Classic. The first JU pitch is scheduled for Friday at 3:30pm against Marist College.Â
