JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University baseball scored the final eight runs of the night and beat Yale 8-3 on Wednesday night at John Sessions Stadium.
The Dolphins (9-9) used a four-run seventh inning to separate from the Bulldogs and win a second in a row, and have now won four of five.
Yale struck first, pushing across two in the third inning. A single and a walk put two on with no one out, and two batters later another walk loaded them up. Back-to-back RBI singles gave the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.
They extended the advantage to 3-0 in the third. Rallying with two-outs, they strung together three straight hits, including a double to drive in another run.
The Jacksonville offense finally got going in the bottom of the fourth and never looked back. Two straight walks to start the inning to
Scott Dubrule and
Anthony George set up
Christian Coipel's two-RBI double down the right field line to bring the Dolphins within one, 3-2.
Jacksonville tied it in the fifth.
Elias Flowers singled to left to start the inning and went to second on
Dakota Julylia's sacrifice bunt. He advanced to third on a groundout before an intentional walk to Dubrule set up George, who poked an RBI single to right.
The Dolphins took the lead in the sixth when
Jacob Southern singled, went to third on
Langston Provitt's double into the left-center gap and scored on Flowers groundout.
The big inning came in the seventh, as Dubrule singled with one-out and George walked before Heffron drove them both in with a double to left. Coipel then parked the first pitch of his at-bat over the right field wall to separate the Dolphins late.
The pitching was strong throughout, as
AJ Jones battled through 5.1 innings in the start,
Avery Love (1-0) relived him to get the final two outs of the sixth and leave them loaded and
Tyler Naumann threw two scoreless innings before
Nick Love ended it in the ninth.
