Box Score Birmingham, AL – Jacksonville University softball cruised to their second victory of the weekend on Sunday morning by hanging two runs on the Colgate Raiders. With the win, Jacksonville improves to a 15-10 record on the season.
"I am so proud of our toughness and resilience right now. The game isn't easy for us right now but we are finding ways to win. Alyssa gave us a great effort on the mound. Carolyn's hustle and Abby's two-run homerun was the difference," commented Head Coach
Erica Ayers.
Alyssa Bilodeau made the start in the circle for JU and pitched a complete game for her eighth victory of the season. The senior compiled 16 strikeouts against 25 batters faced. It was her sixth game of the season with double-digit strikeouts. Bilodeau was just two batters shy from setting a new career high for herself after striking out an impressive 17 batters yesterday against Furman University.
After both teams were quiet in the first inning, the Dolphins made their way onto the scoreboard when
Abby Genest hit a two-run homerun to center field scoring
Carolyn O'Neal.
Jacksonville continued to produce hits as O'Neal,
Kassidy Cross, and
Hannah Roberts all singled in the later innings.
Morgan Farrah homered to left field in the bottom of the seventh to make a late push for Colgate, but their effort fell short as
Leah Zatkiewicz and Bilodeau worked together to record three outs and secure the victory.
O'Neal went 2 for 3 on the afternoon and Genest went 1 for 2 with two RBI's.
On Deck:
The Dolphins will return home to Jacksonville for a midweek matchup against Auburn on Tuesday at 5PM before hosting their final tournament of the season this weekend.
