VERO BEACH, Fla. – Jacksonville University men's golf was back in action on Sunday, completing the first two rounds of the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational in 14th.
Grant Haefner shot a first round 68 and was T5 after round one, but followed that up with a 2-over 74 and currently sits T30 with one round to play. He had five total birdies in the first round, and made par on all but one other hole on his way to his low round. He kept the momentum going early in the second round, birdieing his fourth hole of the round and finishing the front-nine par-or-better on every hole. One bogey and one double were his only blemishes on the back nine that featured seven more pars.
Filip Raza hit a bunch of pars and a birdie early. After consecutive bogeys, he wrapped with another birdie to make 72. He rode a bit of a roller coaster in the second round, making three bogeys, but countering that with four birdies to shoot a 1-under 71 in round two, and is 1-under overall.
Josef Hacker shook off a tough start to his first rough, erasing his two bogeys in his first four holes with four birdies and all the rest pars to close out his opening round with a 2-under 70. He made three more birdies in the second round, but ultimately shot 4-over for the round, and is 2-over overall.
Jack Neill made three first round birdies, and one more in the second, while sinking 23 total pars, third-most on the team.
Joseph Sullivan made a birdie and 12 pars in the first round, before improving by four strokes in the second round, using four birdies to help him get there.
The Dolphins were 9-under on Par-5s on the day, and sank 118 total pars, best in the field. Haefner shot 2-under on Par-3s, second-best score amongst all competitors, and Raza led the team by shooting 4-under on Par-5s. Haefner's 27 pars were best on the team, with Hacker leading the way with seven birdies.
Final round action gets underway with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. at Quail Valley Golf Club.
