Dolphins Drop Last Home Match to Lipscomb

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville's men's soccer team (3-10-0, 2-4-0 ASUN) failed to overcome Lipscomb's (8-4-2, 4-3-0 ASUN) tough offense and suffered a 3-0 loss in its last home game of the season.

During the first five minutes of the contest the Dolphins started out in control as Joshua Araujo-Wilson took the first shot of the game at the six minute mark, but would just scrape the ball on the outside of the goal. Less than a minute later, the Bison pursued its first goal, but the ball would land directly into the hands of JU's starting keeper, Matt Levy

From there, Lipscomb picked up the pace on offense. Starting at the 14 minute mark, the Bison rattled off three shots over a 15 minute period, allowing Levy to record his second save of the half. Through the remainder of the period, neither team managed to score as the ball evenly traveled up and down the field. The scoreboard read zero all as the referee blew the whistle to signal halftime.

Lipscomb returned to the field with more energy than in the first. Two minutes into the second half the Bison rattled off its fifth shot of the match and began to keep the ball on the Dolphins side of the field. After two more shot attempts, Lipscomb's Hayes Wood headed the ball over Levy off a corner kick to put the Bison on the board first. Three minutes later, the Bison scored again to extend its lead to 2-0 at the 75 minute mark. Striking once more, Wood found the back of the net to put the Bison on top 3-0 with only 11 minutes left in the contest.

At the 83 minute mark, Connar Lufkin pursued the net twice in a row to only be blocked both times by the Bison defenders. The Dolphins were unable to stage a dramatic comeback to send the game into overtime.

Up next, the Dolphins hit the road to Kentucky to compete against Bellarmine for the last game of the regular season. The competition is scheduled for Saturday Oct. 30 with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m.
