JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University volleyball took multiple sets to the brink, but fell short at North Florida on Saturday night, dropping the River City Rumble 3-0.
SET ONE
The teams traded the first seven points, before North Florida went on a 4-0 run that ended on a service error, with the score 7-4. Another 4-0 run for the Ospreys pushed the lead to 11-5.
Camryn Honn helped spark the Dolphins with three aces as part of a 6-0 run to cut the deficit to 13-11 and force a UNF timeout.
The lead stayed in the three- to four-point range for UNF until the Ospreys made it 19-14 and JU called timeout. A service error by the Ospreys slowed them down for a moment, but a 4-0 made it 23-15 before a kill by
Isa Dostal. UNF scored the next two to take set one.
SET TWO
UNF opened the second set on a 3-0 run, but the Dolphins used multiple service aces by
Kariana Ayala to go on a 6-0 run to take the lead. The teams traded points until the Dolphins took an 11-10 lead on an
Autumn DeSantis kill that started a 6-0 run to make it 16-10.
UNF managed to pick up a few points, but the Dolphins used kills by
Jenna McNamara and Zoë LaBreche to keep the Ospreys at bay. UNF put together a 3-0 run to get within two, 18-16, and JU used a timeout. Dostal had a big kill to get JU to a 20-17 lead, but UNF responded with a 3-0 run to tie it up. The run continued until UNF led 22-20. A service error brought the Dolphins back within one 22-21, and again 23-22.
Keyauna Linwood had a big kill out of a timeout to tie it at 23, but UNF scored the next two and secured set two.
SET THREE
The Ospreys used an early 4-0 run to go up 7-4, before Dostal and McNamara combined for a block, followed by a
Taylor Sanders ace to tie it at seven. Dostal and
Kyndaal Stansberry had kills as the teams traded the next few points and neither team was able to build more than a two-point advantage.
A 4-0 run put the Dolphins on top 19-18, when Dostal bookended it with a kill and an ace. UNF then scored two in a row to go up 21-20. The Dolphins used an attack error to tie it at 22, and again at 23, but again the Ospreys scored two straight to close out the set and win the match.
Labreche had nine kills to lead the way for JU, with Honn assisting 12 times and
Niccola Bozzini 10 times. McNamara had eight digs and Dostal three blocks.
