Dolphins Fall to Spartans for First Loss Since Nov. 27

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Dolphins (7-3) brought a five-game win streak to South Carolina for a matchup against USC Upstate (6-2) in which JU suffered their first loss since November 27th.

The first half was all Spartans as they opened the first five minutes up 10-0 while the Dolphins struggled to rebound in the first quarter. JU trailed 19-7 after the first quarter as a result of a 13-3 rebound advantage for USC Upstate, something that has been foreign to the Dolphins thus far.

The Dolphins would bring the game closer at the end of the first half as they'd score 19 points in a quarter themselves to trail by just five at half, 31-26. However, that would be the closest that JU would come for the rest of the game as USC Upstate never let off the gas. After 30 minutes, the Spartans had made seven three-pointers in total with four of them dropping in the third quarter alone. After another ten minutes of similar play, the game would be finalized at 00-00.

Although a crushing loss, JU came to South Carolina after winning five in a row and they maintain a winning percentage of .700 after their first ten games of the 2021/22 season. There is a lot to take from this game as they travel to North Carolina for a matchup against the UNC Tar Heels (9-0) on Wednesday, December 15th, at 6PM.
