NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Jacksonville University women's basketball team took to the floor of Allen Arena once more Sunday to wrap up their weekend series with Lipscomb University. The Dolphins (3-12, 1-9) kept things close in the first quarter, but struggled shooting from the field for stretches during the game and were unable to pace the Bisons (9-7, 6-4), falling by a final score of 63-36.
DeShari Graham scored the Dolphins' first points of the day on their first trip down the court after the Lady Bisons won the tip and scored the game's first basket. Things progressed slowly in the opening 10 minutes with both sides having difficulty converting shots. Lipscomb managed to have slightly more success early, as they managed to build a 10-point lead at 15-5 before
Alexis Pierce connected on a pair of three-point shots to bring JU back within four towards the end of the period. A late free throw and three from the home team pushed the score to 19-11 after 10 minutes.
The Lady Bisons turned up the pressure defensively in the second quarter as Jacksonville was unable to settle into any kind of rhythm on offense. Lipscomb was able to connect on four shots from behind the arc to do most of the scoring in the period and went into the half up 37-15.
Jacksonville's offensive struggles continued into the third quarter, as Lipscomb continued to apply pressure and extend their lead. In the fourth quarter, the Dolphins were able to convert 11 free throw attempts before
Tamia Stallings scored on a layup in the final minutes to conclude the afternoon.
Pierce led JU with 11 points as all nine players that checked into the game found their way into the scoring column.
Jacksonville returns to Swisher Gymnasium next Saturday February 20 to play host to FGCU in a 1 PM contest.
