Dolphins Split Double Header at USF

TAMPA, Fla. – The Jacksonville University softball team (3-4) had about as impressive an outing as a team can have in a single day on Sunday afternoon at USF (1-3), splitting a double header, first dropping the opener in dramatic fashion in extras before putting forth an offensive showcase in game two to win via run-rule in six innings.

Alyssa Bilodeau was spectacular once again in the circle in game one. She spun seven and a third scoreless innings with five strikeouts and gave up just three hits. The only downside was that she didn't receive any support on the offensive side as USF pitching held JU to just four hits. It was the third hit that Bilodeau allowed that doomed the Dolphins. Jordyn Kadlub homered to left in the bottom of the eighth to walk the Bulls off winners, 1-0.

Jacksonville wasted no time jumping all over USF in game two. Hannah Roberts took a 3-0 pitch out of the ballpark to drive in two. The Dolphins added two more runs in the second to move ahead 4-0. The gloves came off in the third when a parade of hits led to four more runs, putting the Dolphins ahead 8-0.

Skylar Whitty held the Bulls hitless through three but surrendered a three-spot and just one out in the fourth before giving way to Sean Mora in relief. Mora closed out the final 2.2 allowing just one run and striking out four without giving up a hit.

The Dolphins shut the door in the top of the sixth. Makenzie Buss was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to drive in a run, Hannah Roberts reached on an error to force home another and Kailey Harrigan delivered the knockout blow with a Grand Slam to push JU ahead 14-4. Jacksonville collected 10 hits in all to earn the victory.

Next up for JU will be a trip to Auburn on Thursday (Feb. 25) for another date with the Tigers. The Dolphins will then play double headers with IUPUI and Murray State on Friday and Saturday, respectively, also at Auburn.
