JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville University volleyball team was back in action Sunday night at Swisher Gymnasium, once more playing host to the University of North Florida in the second River City Rumble match of the season. Looking to split the weekend series, the Dolphins started the evening strong but were unable to overcome the Ospreys' (4-6, 3-1) offense, falling in straight sets (19-25, 19-25, 15-25).
Â
Set one started off on the right note for JU as
Hannah Edelman collected aces on the first two serves of the night and set the tone as the Dolphins scored five of the first seven points of the night. UNF answered with a run of four straight to go ahead 6-5 before a service error and a kill from
Madison Rayam put Jacksonville back ahead. With the score at 9-8 JU, the Ospreys put together another 4-0 stretch that allowed them to retake the lead for good in the opening set. The Dolphins tried to rally behind kills from Edelman and
Jenna McNamara but fell short in the opening set 25-19.
Â
Set two once again saw Jacksonville start strong, scoring eight of the first 12 points behind Edelman, McNamara and
Sydney Bolding. JU would maintain their lead until UNF pieced together a 7-1 run starting at 12-8 to jump in front 15-13. Once more, the Dolphins tried to rally but another late run by the Ospreys allowed them to take set two 25-19.
Â
Coming out in set three, Jacksonville started strong once more, matching UNF point for point in the early going. After a kill from
Isa Dostal got JU within one at 6-5, the Ospreys scored eight-straight points to swing the momentum in their favor at 14-5. A quick 4-0 run from JU made it 14-9 but the UNF offense was able to answer and pull away to take the set 25-15.
Â
Edelman ended the night with 10 kills and finished two digs shy of a double-double with eight along with a pair of service aces. McNamara also posted a 10-kill effort along with four digs and three blocks.
Madison Dagenhart had 13 assists while
Avery Perosa and
Addyson Lewis each had nine digs.
Â
The Dolphins will be back on the road this Friday February 26 in Fort Myers as they take on FGCU in a 7 PM contest.
