Baseball Falls Saturday in Gainesville

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University baseball dropped game two of the weekend series at #5/#6 Florida 9-0 on Saturday.

The Dolphins' (4-9) four-game winning streak was snapped, as they managed just two hits on the night against the Gators strong pitching.

"We put some good at-bats on them and it was a very competitive game until it got out of hand late," said Head Coach Chris Hayes.

JU put men on early, but struggled to get the clutch hit to drive them in. Ruben Someillan reached on an error to lead the game off, stole second and went to third on a flyout before being stranded there. Dakota Julylia led off the second with a single, but was erased as part of a double play when Tyler McKenna's line drive shot was caught at first. The Dolphins loaded them up in the third, but left them loaded.

The Gators got on the board in the third with a solo home run to left. The lead extended to 3-0 on a two-run homer in the third.

Mike Cassala (1-2) battled his way through five innings, stranding men on in the fourth and the fifth to keep the game close.

A leadoff walk in the sixth came around to score on two wild pitches to push the lead to 4-0. Florida separated in the eighth, scoring five men on a bases loaded balk, a two-run double and a two-run home run to left center.

ON DECK

Jacksonville has another chance at a series win tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. at Florida Ballpark. RHP Mason Adams (1-0) makes his second straight Sunday start for the Dolphins.
