JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University baseball dropped game three of the River City Rumble 9-3 to North Florida on Sunday afternoon at John Sessions Stadium.
The Dolphins (5-15, 0-3) surrendered two runs in the top of the first and we unable to work their way back throughout the afternoon.
"We've got a challenge ahead of us," said Head Coach
Chris Hayes. "We've got to get better offensively, defensively and on the mound."
UNF got it started early off of
Jagger McCoy (1-1), beginning with a leadoff double that scored two batters later on an RBI single, setting up a two-out RBI double that bounced off the bag at first to plate another and it was 2-0 Ospreys before Jacksonville came to bat for the first time on the day.
JU got one back in the bottom half, with a little two-out rally.
Dakota Julylia singled and scored when
Duncan Hunter drove a double to right center field.
UNF got back on the board to push the lead to 3-1 in the third. A one-out walk moved into scoring position on a stolen base and scored on a single to left. The Ospreys best offensive inning came in the fourth. After a one-out single, JU made a pitching change, and another stolen base setup a two-out RBI single. That was followed by a two-run homer to left to make it 6-1 North Florida.
After a pair of errors plated the seventh run of the afternoon for UNF in the top of the sixth, the Dolphins got back on the board in the bottom half.
Jesus Pacheco hit his first career home, which sparked a stretch of long balls. North Florida hit its second home run of the day in the top of the eighth, and
Christian Coipel answered with his second of the year to left field in the bottom half to make it 8-3.
North Florida added one more in the top of the ninth, when a leadoff walk came in to score after a double and then an RBI single.
