JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville University women's soccer team ended their 2021 campaign on Saturday afternoon in Fort Myers during the ASUN conference tournament, with a 2-1 loss to
Florida Gulf Coast University.
FGCU (7-2-2, 4-2-0) took control of the game early, with a goal scored by
Alyssa Abbondandolo on a penalty kick. However, the lead did not last long as Jacksonville (1-10-1, 1-4-1) tied the game at 26:53 with a goal from
Gabby Holtrop, assisted by
Emma Wood.
In the second half, the Eagles scored at 69:24 to take the lead. Despite a tough effort by the Dolphins, the Eagles were able to hold on to secure the victory.
Although Jacksonville walked away with a loss, a standout for the dolphins was goalkeeper
Courtney Green. Green shined on defense by accumulating 13 saves.
The loss in the ASUN Championship tournament confirms that Jacksonville's season has come to an end. The Dolphin's conference win against
Stetson this year is the first under head coach
John Constable. Constable joined the program March 11, 2020.
