JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After enjoying an off weekend following a strong outing against Florida Tech to begin the month, the Jacksonville University men's rowing team will head north to Virginia this weekend for action against George Washington University and the United States Naval Academy.
"We are excited to get back out on the water this weekend against very solid squads from the Naval Academy and George Washington University," said head coach Jason Cottingham. "Going to the Occoquan will be a nice change of pace for the guys from racing in Florida."
"The Navy Lightweight program will bring very fast boats to the course. They have raced other heavyweight programs this year and have given other crews more than they can handle. This will be a great test for us. Coach Gehrke at George Washington will also have those guys ready to race. Historically very strong IRA competitors they should be very physical and prove why they are always strong at the IRA."
"The Navy heavyweights in the afternoon will bring classic physical Navy boats. They are very well coached by Rob and his staff and will be tough to handle. We have made a few changes and are ready to test our speed against some of the best teams in the country."
I also want to thank the Naval Academy and the student-athletes competing, for their service, and all that they do and will do for our country in the future.
The event will be live streamed on Navy Rowing's Facebook account, which can be found at https://www.facebook.com/navycrew/.
The event will take place Sunday on the Occoquan River in Fairfax Station, Virginia.
