Dolphins Succumb to Big Fifth Inning at UNF

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University baseball fell victim to a big fifth inning to lose 14-6 to North Florida on Sunday at Harmon Stadium.

The Dolphins (7-26, 0-12) were swept by the Ospreys for the second time this season.

UNF scored first all weekend, and continued it on Sunday, pushing across two in the first. Three straight two-out base hits, the last of which a two-RBI double, made it 2-0 Ospreys after one.

The Dolphins got one back in the second. JU had its own bit of two-out success, with Blake DeLamielleure singling to center and Trace Burchard driving a double to right to score him, cutting the deficit to one, 2-1.

After two innings of zeroes, the consequential fifth defined the day. Kyle Richardson opened the inning with a solo home run to left, and Ruben Someillan followed immediately with a homer to right to take a 3-2 lead. After Jesus Pacheco reached on an error, he advanced to third on another error on a pick-off attempt, scoring when Christian Coipel lifted a deep sacrifice fly to right to make it 4-2 Dolphins.

Mike Cassala retired two of the first two batters he faced in the bottom of the inning, but hit a batter with two strikes, then surrendered an RBI single to cut the lead to one, which ended his day. The inning was far from over, however, as the bullpen struggled to get that final out of the inning, and when it was all said and done, UNF had scored nine runs in the frame to take an 11-4 lead.

The Dolphins got two more in the sixth, when Richardson hit his second homer run of the day, a two-run jack. UNF tacked on additional runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth.
