Dolphins Drop Series Opener at FGCU

FT. MYERS, Fla. – Jacksonville University baseball fell behind early and could not erase a deficit on the road Friday night, falling to FGCU 18-4.

The Dolphins (7-19, 0-7) allowed crooked numbers in the first two innings and surrendered runs in the first four to a hot hitting Eagles team at Swanson Stadium.

After JU went down in order to start the game, FGCU started well, collecting a single and a walk, before back-to-back two out singles drove in runs and an error allowed a third to score to give the Eagles an early 3-0 lead.

They added to their advantage in the second, when a leadoff double came in to score after consecutive singles. Another single plated a second run in the inning and a three-run home run after that pushed the lead to 8-0 after two.

Jacksonville got on the board in the third, when Jesus Pacheco singled with two-outs and scored on Dakota Julylia's RBI double to right.

FGCU immediately answered, making the advantage eight runs again after two straight one-out singles put runners at the corners, and a sacrifice fly scored him.

The Eagles added a solo home run and runs scored on a bases loaded walk, hit batsman and wild pitch to make it 13-1 after four.

Cory Heffron hit his second home run of the season, leaving the yard with a two-run shot to left in the sixth. Stephen Moffatt had an RBI single in the eighth.

The Eagles tacked on additional runs in the sixth and seventh.
