Jacksonville Falls Short in Regular Season Finale at High Point

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Jacksonville University men's lacrosse team (7-6, 4-2 SoCon) fell short in a preview of next week's SoCon Championship semifinal opposite High Point (6-5, 5-1) on Saturday afternoon; dropping a 16-11 result on the road to close out the regular season.

The Dolphins, now secure as the No. 3 seed in the SoCon tournament, will square up with No. 2 seed High Point on Wednesday (May 5) in Richmond for the right to play for a Championship on Friday, May 7. The Dolphins last played for the SoCon title in 2018, also in Richmond.

Jack Dolan led the way in the regular season finale, scoring three goals with a pair of assists and four ground balls. Brendan McKenna broke loose for a goal and two assists while Evan Tyler scored twice and Matt Stagnitta handed out two assists. Jake Antonucci, Tucker Garrity, Jacob Greiner, Troy Hettinger and Jeremy Winston all scored once. Nathan Kapp was 11-21 on faceoffs with six ground balls. Jordan Young picked up four ground balls as well.

Jason Yoquinto and Adam Baker split time in goal. Yoquinto made three saves and surrendered 12 goals in 35 minutes of action. Baker made three saves and allowed four goals in 24 minutes.

High Point jumped ahead 5-0 in the first quarter before the Dolphins finally broke through with 48 seconds left in the opening stanza. The two sides traded goals until High Point added back-to-back tallies midway through the second to move ahead, 9-3. Hettinger and Greiner collected their scores near the end of the second to leave the JU deficit at 9-5 at the break.

High Point opened the third with three-straight to make it 12-5 by the 9:46 mark. JU scored back-to-back to get within five but that was as close as the Dolphins came the rest of the way. Jacksonville trailed by as many as eight, 16-8, with 8:47 to go but scored three-straight to close it out to create the final spread.
