JU Clubs UNF in Home Finale

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University baseball wrapped the home schedule with a 12-2 win over North Florida on Friday night at John Sessions Stadium.

The Dolphins (11-30) sent the seniors out in style, collecting 17 hits, while completely stymieing the Ospreys offense all night.

Both teams squandered opportunities in the first, but JU drew first blood in the second. After Cory Heffron hit a one-out single and went to second on a passed ball, scoring when Elias Flowers ripped a single to right. Jackson Grabsky then singled, putting runners at the corners for Jake Berg, who grounded out, but drove in Flowers to make it 2-0.

The Ospreys answered back in the third, putting the leadoff man on with a walk. He advanced to second on a wild pitch, third on a ground out and scored on another wild pitch to make it 2-1, but that is as close as it would be the rest of the way.

After a groundout started the bottom of the third, two straight singles set the table for Christian Coipel, who drove in a run on a single. Mike Cassala followed that up with an RBI single of his own and Cory Heffron made it three straight singles to push the lead to 5-1. Grabsky completed the scoring that inning to push the lead to 6-1.

Again, in the fourth, the Dolphins added to the lead. Ruben Someillan drew a walk and Dakota Julylia singled to set up Christian Coipel's three-run home run to right to extend the advantage to 9-1. JU tacked on three more in the fifth, when Flowers and Grabsky singled to start the frame, Duncan Hunter reached on an error and Jesus Pacheco drove a bases-loaded, two-RBI double to right. Someillan hit a sacrifice fly and it was 12-1.

UNF added one run in the sixth, after a walk, wild pitch and single, but Tyler Santana was otherwise strong all evening, pitching seven innings, fanning five and scattering four hits. He was followed out of the pen by Adrian Garrastazu, who worked 2.2 scoreless with three strikeouts, before Jack Carver got the final out of the game.
