JU Rallies to Take ASUN Game One at FGCU

FORT MYERS, Fla. – A four-run ninth inning sparked Jacksonville University baseball to a come-from-behind 4-1 win over FGCU on Friday night at Swanson Stadium.

The Dolphins took game one of the best-of-three ASUN Baseball Quarterfinal series against the Eagles, and stand just a win away from advancing to next weekend's Semifinals.

JU entered the ninth down 1-0, and had been retired 11 times in a row entering the frame. Jesus Pacheco managed a single to start it, and Ruben Someillan followed up with a drag bunt single up the first base line. Dakota Julylia slapped a two-strike pitch into the hole at short, and the FGCU shortstop made a low throw to second that skipped into right field, allowing Pacheco to score and tie the game.

With runners at the corners and no one out, Christian Coipel roped a two-RBI triple to right centerfield gap to put the Dolphins ahead for good. Mike Cassala grounded out to third, scoring Coipel on the play to push the lead to 4-1.

Jagger McCoy closed it out, as part of 2.1 innings of perfect relief, building off of Tyler Santana's gutsy start.

The redshirt-senior battled his way to 6.2 innings in his start, allowing just one run on three hits, while striking out six. He stranded two men on in the second, and walked the bases loaded in the third before working his way out of the jam unscathed again. He allowed a two-out single in the fourth, scoring the Eagles lone run of the game, before buckling down to retire seven of the next nine batters he faced before exiting in the seventh.
