Dolphins Suffer Loss to Bulls in Regular Season Opener

TAMPA - Jacksonville men's soccer (0-1-0) opened its regular season with a 4-1 loss on the road against USF (1-0-0), Thursday evening. The Bulls took control of the game early and consistently dominated on offense, limiting the Dolphins to only one goal scored in the second period of the match.

The USF offense was strong out of the gate, as Shion Soga scored at the 16:15 mark on an assist from Jeffrey Cooper to put the Bulls on the board first. During the next twenty-two minutes the Bulls would take five more shot attempts, three of which were saved by the Dolphins' starting goalkeeper, Matt Levy. At 38:22, Henrique Gallina scored on assists from Oscar Resano and Soga to change the score to 2-0. Less than five minutes later, Resano found the back of the net with help from Gullina to make the score 3-0 going into halftime.

After halftime, JU returned to the game ready to put up a fight. Ten minutes into the second period, Reed Davis headed the ball into the net off a pass from Jose Manzo, to cut the Bulls lead to 3-1. However, USF responded with another goal after Gallina scored his second of the game to return the Bulls to a three-point lead.

Both teams were less productive on offense for the remainder of the game. The Bulls attempted four more shots before the final buzzer, while the Dolphins only managed to attempt two.

Despite the loss, Levy shined in the net for the Dolphins after accumulating five saves against 17 shots faced.

The Dolphins will return to Southern Oak Stadium for its home opener against Wofford (0-2-0) this Sunday, August 29. The evening will serve as Military Appreciation night with kick off set for 5:00 p.m. ET. Fans can watch the game live on Youtube.
