JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. – A steady rain throughout the day could not dampen the competitive spirits of the Jacksonville University men's golf team, who sit in first at the Battle of Briar's Creek.

Play was suspended late in the first round as the consistent precipitation worsened in the middle of the afternoon and affected the conditions at The Golf Club at Briar's Creek.

The Dolphins completed 15 of a scheduled 36 holes, and the despite the inclement weather, the team shot steady, consistent golf all day. In his first event with JU, graduate transfer Grant Haefner shot 1-under, birdieing two of his first four holes as part of a roller-coaster start, before settling in and tacking on two more red numbers to go with seven pars over his last 10 holes of the day.

Josef Hacker buried a team-best 12 pars en route to going 1-under so far, and is tied for second in the field with his teammate Haefner. Alexandre Vandermoten gave up a few strokes early, but birdied his second and seventh holes of the day and made par on 10 others, sitting T10 at 1-over.

Filip Raza, another Dolphin making his debut, rattled off nine straight pars on the back-nine of the course, while Joseph Sullivan overcame an early double-bogey to birdie two holes, also on the back-nine of the course. Both Raza and Sullivan are T19 at 2-over.

As a team, JU was the best-scoring bunch on Par-3s, shooting even as a team, and Par-4s, four strokes better than second-place Memphis. No team sank more pars, with the consistent Dolphins making 51 through the first 15 holes of the event.

The event has been shortened to 36 holes total. They are scheduled to restart round one play with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday, then play 18 more holes after that to conclude the event.
