JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville's women's soccer team (5-4-2, 0-2-0 ASUN) dropped a close match against Lipscomb (6-3-1, 1-1-0) 2-0, at Southern Oak Stadium in its second conference matchup of the season. The loss means the Dolphins have yet to garner a victory against an ASUN opponent.
The Dolphins freshman Selma Fohrer managed to take the first shot attempt of the game at the six minute mark, but the Bisons responded with a goal less than two minutes later to take the quick 1-0 lead. As the game fell silent through the next 10 minutes of play, the ball made its way up and down the field as each team began to battle on offense. Suddenly, Lipscomb began to take control, accumulating back-to-back shot attempts that would ultimately be blocked and saved by Dolphins starting goalkeeper Courtney Green.
At the 32 minute mark, Julianne Hutchison attempted the second shot of the game for JU, but was unsuccessful in getting the ball past the Bisons keeper. Three minutes later the Bisons would repeat its back-to-back shot attempt method, but were unable to extend its lead as the whistle blew to signify the end of the half.
Lipscomb came into the second half stronger than before. Within the first 10 minutes of play, the Bison achieved two more shot attempts that would both miss just outside the goal. Fohrer and Hutchison each took one more shot attempt at the 61 minute mark, but failed to find the back of the net to put the Dolphins on the board. At the 63 minute mark, the Bisons Shelby Craft scored her first goal of the season to extend Lipscomb's lead, 2-0.
Through the next thirty minutes of play, the Dolphins began to step up its game on offense and keep the ball on Lipscombs side of the field. Starting at the 74 minute mark, JU carried out four shot attempts and held the Bison to only two. While the Dolphins threatened the Bisons defense, it would not be enough to tie the game or take the lead and escape with the win.
Up next, the Dolphins are set for a two-game road trip starting with ASUN opponent, Eastern Kentucky (4-6-0, 0-2-0 ASUN), on Thursday, Sept. 28. Kickoff from Richmond is set for 4:00 p.m. ET.
