JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Dolphins (9-6) took a trip to Lynchburg, Virginia to take on the Liberty Flames (16-2) in another tight ASUN battle. The game was an up and down affair as Liberty would come out on top, 48-49.
The final score was no indication of how the first half went for JU. After trailing close behind in the first ten minutes, the second quarter was one to forget. JU only scored three total points to close out the first half and trailed 17-33 once the horn sounded. Significant adjustments had to be made to bring the team back.
Those adjustments would be made as the story would flip completely in the second half. The Dolphins would go on a 21-4 run in the third quarter to bring themselves ahead of the Flames on the backs of great defense and the ability to get to the free-throw line. In just those ten minutes, JU would attempt twelve free throws and connect on ten of them. The tone was set for the final ten minutes, and that tone set the stage for one of the best games of the year thus far. The Dolphins would lead for the majority of the fourth, however, the game was lost in the final seconds.
While not a winning night for JU, one player truly stood out. Taylor Hawks once again proved why Coach Haney has such high praise for her, game in and game out. As the "head coach on the floor," Hawks scored 17 points with three rebounds and a whopping five steals. Her efforts, regardless of wins or losses, continue to improve and shine as the season rolls on.
Rolling on is what the Dolphins will do now as travel continues for the next matchup against Bellarmine on Saturday, January 22nd at 2PM.
