LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Dolphins (10-6) continued their road trip as they traveled to Louisville, Kentucky to take on the Bellarmine Knights (3-14). Improving their ASUN record, JU would take the win, 64-46.
JU started the game with an 11-0 run as Bellarmine could not get anything going. Bellarmine was held to just 13% shooting from the field in the first quarter, their only points came from two three-pointers. The second quarter would bring some offensive fire to Bellarmine as they scored fifteen but could not hold the Dolphins as they scored sixteen to maintain a lead of eight at halftime.
The second half was significantly more stressful for JU as they allowed Bellarmine to climb back in the third quarter, dropping the scoring in that third by a difference of –4. This brought the Knights back both in score and momentum. However, they could not make up for that early first-quarter run from JU and never led for one second. JU held the lead for all forty minutes of the game, for the first time this season.
The biggest difference in the game came from JU's ability to get back to their usual rebounding form. Asiah Jones led the way as she scored a double-double with twelve points and ten rebounds. The team as a whole would out-rebound Bellarmine by twelve while forcing 18 turnovers as well. As defense is the name of their game, that name remained true this afternoon, leading JU to their tenth win on the season and third conference win thus far.
The Dolphins return home after three straight road games to take on Lipscomb (8-10) on Thursday, January 27th at 2PM.
