Dolphins Defeat North Alabama to Close Regular Season

Florence, Ala.Selma Fohrer's goal in the 81st minute was the deciding factor, as the Jacksonville University women's soccer program defeated North Alabama, 1-0.

The shutout, the Dolphins (6-4-5, 3-4-3) seventh clean sheet defensively of the year, helped JU pick up three critical points in the ASUN standings.

Dolphin freshman Anaya Black nearly kickstarted the JU attack in the second minute, however her shot would be stopped by the Lions.

The Lions had two attempts to score in the opening half, in the 25th and 33rd minute, however JU goalkeeper Murphy Sheaff would be there to stop both.

Black's shot attempt in the 38th minute would be final shot on goal for either program in the opening half, as the score was all square at zero entering the break.

In the second half, there were a combined four shots on goal in the first 36 minutes of play, however neither side could find the back of the net.

That would all change in the 81st minute, when Fohrer would break the scoreless tie. The Dolphin forward would use the right foot to find the top left corner of the net, from well outside the box, giving Jacksonville the one-goal edge.

The Jacksonville defense would stay strong for the remaining nine minutes of play, as Jacksonville was able to secure the road conference victory, 1-0.

The Dolphins turn their attention to tomorrow afternoon at 1 PM, when Stetson takes on Kennesaw State.

With a win by the Owls, the Dolphins would secure the eighth and final spot in the 2022 ASUN Women's Soccer Championship, which would be the first postseason berth for the program since 2017.
