JU Extends Home Winning Streak to 18 on Saturday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University men's basketball outscored Trinity Baptist 33-9 over the last 11 and half minutes of the first half to pull away for a 74-39 win on Saturday evening at Swisher Gymnasium.

The Dolphins had four scorers finish in double-figures, led by Oumar Koureissi's career-high 16 points and extended the home winning streak to 18 straight games.

The game started slowly, with both teams trading buckets early. JU could not push the lead to more than four for the first eight minutes and the Eagles hit a three with 11:45 to play in the half to take an 11-9 lead. Kevion Nolan quickly answered with a three-ball of his own and the Dolphins did not look back after that.

Jarius Cook hit a three, the first of his three on the day, and Koureissi went on a personal 6-0 run, prompting Trinity Baptist to call a timeout with the Dolphins up 23-15 with 7:34 left in the first. The run continued after the timeout, with JU scoring seven quick ones to push the lead to 15, culminating in a three-pointer by Osayi Osifo. Jordan Davis scored five straight before the Eagles finally scored again with 3:45 left, and the Dolphins went into the break leading 42-20.

Osifo dominated the start of the second half, grabbing an offensive rebound and drawing a foul, splitting a pair of rebounds. He drew another foul and made one of two again the next possession, and flushed home a slam on an offensive board to go up 43-28 two and a half minutes into the second.

JU held Trinity Baptist to just 17 shot attempts in the second half, and outscored the Eagles 32-19 in the last 20 minutes.
