PONTE VEDRA, Fla. – Alexandre Vandermoten wrapped up the Sea Best Invitational with a top-five finish on Tuesday at TPC Sawgrass – Dye's Valley.
Jacksonville University men's golf came home T9 in its first event of the fall.
Vandermoten made five pars to start his last round, before sinking his first birdie of the day on his fifth hole. After giving a stroke back, he hit his second and final birdie of the round to start his back nine. He shot a 73 and finish T4 with a 211 overall.
Joseph Sullivan turned in his best round of the week to climb 21 spots on the leaderboard, shooting a 3-under 68 on Tuesday. He started steady, making par on four of his first five holes, then sinking his first birdie on his sixth. He made three more pars to close out his front nine, sank a birdie to start the back and closed the round with three red numbers in his final four holes.
Both
Josef Hacker and
Grant Haefner shot final round 73s. Hacker made 12 pars and a pair of birdies and Haefner had 11 pars and two birdies.
Arkesh Bhatia was the Dolphins' best individual finisher, shooting a final round 72 to move up seven places the last day, thanks to four birdies.
Jack Neill made three birdies and climbed five spots, tying his best round for the week.
Brandon Valvano had a pair of birdies and
James Dulin made 10 pars.
At 5-under on Par-5s for the event, JU was tied for second in the field in scoring on such holes. Vandermoten shot 4-under on Par-5s, and was tied for the best scoring on the Par-5s. Bhatia, Neill and Hacker were 2-under and Haefner 1-under on the Par-5s as well.
Vandermoten had 36 pars and nine birdies to lead the team and Hacker added 35 pars.
The team return to the course on Feb. 12, with the first two rounds of the Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.
